Immune adsorption / plasma exchange

differences

Immune adsorption:

Selective: removal of immunoglobulins;

Good removal of IgG, less good IgA and IgM

Return of the cleaned own plasma to the patient;

no foreign proteins necessary

Processing of large plasma volumes and high frequencies possible

Higher material costs, technically more complex, more time-consuming

Very rare side effects, well tolerated

Treatment duration significantly longer, calculated individually for each patient

Treated plasma amount up to 10 liters / day

Plasma exchange:

Not selective: removal of all plasma proteins

Good removal of IgG, IgA and IGM

Removal of small amounts of coagulation factors

Volume replacement solution:

(synthetic human albumin solution, if necessary FFP, no foreign blood)

Volumes and frequencies are limited

Lower material costs, less time consuming

Side effects from volume shifts are rare

Duration 2h + return time

Treated plasma amount approx. 2 liters / day
